About Paula P. Gearan, M.Ed., LMFT, LSAC, CAGS

Paula has over 12 years of experience working with individuals, couples, families, and children from a wide variety of backgrounds; including preschoolers on the Autism Spectrum, premarital counseling, couples in crisis, infidelity, co-parenting after a divorce, new parents, children in foster care, reunified families, homeless elders and teens, and GLBT youth and adults. Paula is trained in family systems therapy and cognitive behavioral therapy, which includes a strong emphasis on the impact of an individual's systems of support, and views client's unhealthy coping skills as learned behaviors that can be changed and improved upon.
Paula served as a volunteer for the Boston Medical Center's Good Grief Circle Group for families who have lost a loved one. She conducted her first graduate internship at the Boston Area Rape Crisis Center. Her group experience includes: young mothers, runaway and exploited teens, social skills for adults, social skills for first graders and preschoolers, and support for parents of children with disabilities.
Paula is a licensed marriage and family therapist and a licensed school adjustment counselor. She holds a BA from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst in English Literature. She also holds a Masters degree in Education for Marriage and Family Therapy from the University of Massachusetts, Boston. Paula obtained a Certificate of Advanced Graduate Studies from the University of Massachusetts, Boston in Mental Health Counseling. She is a member of the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapists, and the Massachusetts School Counselors Association.
